Frequently Asked Questions

How are prayer times in Rochester calculated?

Prayer times are calculated astronomically from Rochester's coordinates (44.0121, -92.4802) and its time zone America/Chicago, using the ISNA method issued by Islamic Society of North America. Fajr and Isha are defined by the angle of the sun below the horizon, while Dhuhr is set by the sun passing its zenith.

How long until Dhuhr in Rochester?

The countdown at the top of this page shows the hours, minutes and seconds remaining until the Dhuhr azan. It updates every second against your own device clock and Rochester's local time.

What is the difference between Imsak and Fajr?

Imsak is a cautionary time about ten minutes before Fajr at which it is recommended to stop eating and drinking. The fast formally begins at the Fajr azan itself.

Do prayer times differ between cities in United States?

Yes. Times shift with latitude and longitude, and the difference between the east and the west of a country can reach tens of minutes, which is why every city is calculated separately rather than using one national timetable.

What time is Fajr in Rochester today?

Fajr in Rochester is at 05:59 local time today. The Fajr window stays open until sunrise at 07:19, a period of about 1h 20m.

What time is Maghrib in Rochester today?

Maghrib in Rochester is at 18:34 today. That is the moment of sunset, and during Ramadan it is also the time of iftar. Isha follows at 19:53.

How many hours of daylight are there in Rochester today?

Daylight in Rochester runs from sunrise at 07:19 to sunset at 18:34, about 11h 15m. This shifts a little every day as the sun moves.

Which direction is the qibla from Rochester?

The qibla from Rochester is 44.6° from true north. The live qibla compass on this site resolves the direction from your own position.

Can I rely on these times for prayer?

Yes. They are computed astronomically from Rochester's exact coordinates (44.0121, -92.4802) and its time zone America/Chicago, using the ISNA method, which is the standard used in United States. Where a minute matters to you, your local mosque remains the safest reference.

Why do these times differ by a minute or two from another app?

Because each site picks its own method and its own sun angles for Fajr and Isha, and rounds differently. We use ISNA and round Fajr down and Maghrib up as a precaution, which accounts for the one or two minute difference.

Do these times update automatically every day?

Yes. Every city is recomputed and republished automatically several times a day, and the page also carries a full thirty-day table in advance, so nothing needs refreshing by hand.
